Severn River - Indian Landing

  • Location: Severn River
  • Mile Marker: Mile 53 West
  • Lat / Lon: N 39° 04.735' / W 076° 36.392'
  • Depth: 8 feet
  • Tide: 1 foot
  • Description:

This is a beautiful anchorage near the headwaters of the Severn, with high banks, excellent protection, good holding and generally quiet surroundings. Honor the tiny buoy marking the sandbar at the end of the Severn River Narrows. It is like a little lake, immune to storms. Anchor anywhere in the open area, taking care to avoid the little central sandbar that was once a lovely, treed island until daytripping picnickers and skiers cut the trees for bonfires and promoted rapid erosion. Both it, known as Second Island, and the one closer to the western shore, First Island, have been owned by Indian Landing Boat Club for more than a century. Stay clear of the center to avoid occasional motorboat traffic.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
